About Us: TrapperGord.com

Gordy Klassen grew up in the small community of Debolt, Alberta approximately 400 km north west of Edmonton, Alberta. He started trapping as a young boy for a pastime and spending money. These early experiences were the beginning of a lifelong passion for hunting and trapping. In his late teens he and his brother started a construction business, Klassen Brothers, providing construction services for oil and gas exploration. Through years of perseverance and hard work Klassen Brothers was a success and is doing well today under the supervision of Gordy’s son.

In 2002 Gordy became an active volunteer with the Alberta Trappers Association (ATA). His goal was to share his love of furbearers and trapping with others. After serving as a director for a year he was elected president, a position he still holds today. As president of the ATA he has worked tirelessly with all stake holders involved in the future of trapping in Alberta to present real solutions and an educated view.

To further share his expertise as a trapper and his love of the wilderness Gordy (Trapper Gord) started the Trapper Gord Wilderness College. With the support of his wife Alison, also an accomplished hunter and trapper, as well as many other animal management specialists they offer a range of courses from wolf snaring to fur handling and traditional crafts.

Gordy has actively trapped throughout his life gathering a wealth of experience on trapping and furbearers. This experience combined with a desire to continually improve habitat and trapping methods have allowed him great success as a trapper. In recent years he has gained particular recognition with his methods and skills used for the management of wolf populations.

Gordy has been influential in gaining respect for trappers and educating others on the vital role that trappers play as steward of the land.

Through all aspect of his life from building a large company to raising his family; enduring family tragedy and running his farm Trapper Gord has never strayed from his love of the wilderness. His goal will forever be to ensure his children and grand children will be able to know it and love it the way he has.
